Nicaragua Dreaming
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.--Lao-tzu
In January, 2009, the Hartford/Ocotal Sister City Project delegation traveled to Nicaragua to look in on the projects it funds, a micro-loan project to support entrepreneurial women and their children in Ocotal and a health educators project in remote communities in the surrounding areas. The images that follow do not constitute or reference an actual installation. Not yet.
In 2012, I returned to Nicaragua as a delegate. This time, two families (including 4 teens) traversed the country from Managua to Ocotal to Matagalpa to the Solentiname archipeligo, meeting with two sister city groups and visiting schools, entrepreneurial enterprises, a maternal health project deep in the coutryside and, in Solintiname, Ernesto Cardinal's now self sustained art community of "nieve" painters.
Both of the above journeys resulted in the production of video programs, promoting interest in public involement in the Hartford/Ocotal Sister City Project and the general support of the Nicaraguan people. (2012 images yet to come...)
